The University College tower, built in 1922, is often the first image that comes to mind when thinking of Western University. Until recently, the official logo for the school bore its image, standing tall over the campus school.
Andres Villar is a visual arts professor at Western University, and explains that the tower offers a historical connection, taking design cues from a time when universities were first being established.
The gothically inspired building is currently undergoing renovations, including a complete replacement of the electrical, plumbing and heating systems. This will ensure the iconic structure is a part of the university for years to come.
